This article outlines best practices for setting up and using the Code Generator in Vestis Labs to support consistent, automated generation of SKU codes, Style codes, and Library item codes across your product.
Introduction & Best Practice
The Code Generator in Vestis Labs allows you to define structured formulas for creating product codes using predefined elements such as season, category, style, material, size, and color. By configuring code formulas in Admin, you ensure every generated code follows a clear, standardised format that is easy to read, track, and manage.
Using the Formula Builder, you can arrange formula elements in the desired order, define separators, and control how codes are constructed. This structured approach improves data consistency, reduces manual errors, and enhances traceability across styles, SKUs, and library items.

From the dashboard menu, navigate to Settings > Code Generator.
Select the Code Generator section to begin configuration.
The Code Generator follows a structured setup flow consisting of four sections:
Formula Builder
- Define the structure of your SKU, Style, or Library item codes.
- Select the formula elements (such as season, category, style, material, size, and color).
- Arrange the elements in the desired order.
- Set the separator to control how elements are divided in the generated code.
Settings
- Configure general code generation rules.
- Define sequence behaviour, formatting options, and any brand-specific requirements.
Data Manager
- Manage the master data used in code generation, including categories, colors, materials, sizes, and seasons.
- Add, edit, or remove data values to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Code Generator
- Generate SKU codes automatically based on the configured formula and managed data.
- Review the generated codes before applying them to styles or products.
SKU numbers are generated sequentially based on the order in which styles are created. The sequence runs across all styles within your brand, not by category.
